Grundy County MOVANS Changed in 2026
Missouri completed a major MOVANS update on May 5 and 6, 2026. The official Missouri DPS transition notice says every user who wants local jail or detention-offender notices had to create a new registration through the current MOVANS portal. An old local-jail registration did not carry forward automatically.
The change also ended phone-call and VINELink-app notifications for local jail events. Current Grundy County local-detention registration uses SMS text, email, or both when the portal offers them. Users registered only for Missouri court events or MODOC offender notices by text or email generally did not need to repeat the local-jail registration process.
Current local-jail path: Create a new MOVANS portal registration and choose SMS or email. Prior local phone and VINELink-app notices ended in May 2026.
The official 2026 transition notice controls when it conflicts with older brochures. A saved phone PIN or app alert from the former system is not proof that a current Grundy County local-jail notice remains active. Sign in, locate the correct record, and inspect the live registration.
What VINE Covers in Grundy County
MOVANS stands for Missouri Victim Automated Notification System. It supports searches and notices for participating local detention custody, MODOC offender events, and Missouri court events. These are separate event streams even though they share one service. Choose the type that matches the question.
For someone at the Grundy County Detention Center, use the offender or custody path and narrow to the local custodian when that option appears. For a person transferred into state corrections, use the MODOC offender path. For a case event such as a court setting or disposition, use the court path. Each source has its own support contact and update timing.
MOVANS is designed for a specific-person check and notification, not for browsing everyone released from Grundy County. The research found no verified official Grundy 24-hour or 72-hour release feed. If the portal has no local result, Missouri DPS warns that a jail may be offline. A no-result does not prove that the person was released or never booked.
Custody event: A status or movement transmitted by a participating agency. It can mean release, transfer, location change, or another selected event and may require direct confirmation.
Search a Grundy County Inmate on MOVANS
Use exact identity details and the responsible agency. The same or similar name can appear in more than one county, court, or correctional record. An identifier is safer than a name alone, and the agency label helps separate a Grundy detention event from a state or neighboring-county record.
- Open the current MOVANS portal and choose offender or custody search, not only the court-event search.
- Enter the person’s exact name or known identifier.
- Narrow the agency to Grundy County or the correct Missouri corrections source when the portal offers filters.
- Compare the name, identifier, agency, and other displayed details before opening a result.
- Read the custody or event label and its timestamp in context.
- If the event says release, ask the jail whether the destination was the community or another custodian.
- If no result appears, call the agency and use MOVANS support rather than assuming release.
Grundy County’s physical custodian can differ from the booking or court county. The detention center houses some Putnam and Sullivan detainees by agreement. In that situation, use Grundy to verify physical departure, while the originating sheriff or court explains the booking authority and legal order.
The Grundy County released-inmate guide explains the broader records-request and court paths. MOVANS is most useful for tracking one selected custody event, while the sheriff’s release screen remains the source for local departure time, release code, authority, and destination.
Grundy County VINE Release Fields
The live portal determines which fields appear for a particular source. Read only the labels shown and avoid adding a date or status that the screen does not provide. A local-jail result may differ from a MODOC event or court notification.
| Field or label | How to interpret it |
|---|---|
| Name or identifier | Helps distinguish the intended person from a similar-name record |
| Agency or custodian | Shows which local jail, MODOC source, or court supplied the event |
| Custody status | Reports the source system’s current transmitted status, subject to delay |
| Event type | May identify release, transfer, custody change, or another selected event |
| Event timestamp | Shows when the event was recorded or transmitted, not always the jail’s gate time |
| Notification options | Lists the event categories and SMS or email channels available for registration |
A “release” is a system-reported custody change. It may not state whether the person went home, transferred to MODOC, moved to another county, or entered federal or immigration custody. The Grundy County Sheriff can resolve the physical departure and recorded destination. Case.net can help explain the court authority but does not replace the jail timestamp.
Note: Record the date checked because a live custody result can change after a later agency transmission.
Register for Grundy County Release Notices
Register from the correct offender or case result so the notice follows the intended record. The portal controls the exact prompts, event choices, and confirmation flow. Select the offered events that match the need, especially release or custody change, and keep the contact details current.
- Locate the correct person and agency record in MOVANS.
- Choose the notification or registration option attached to that result.
- Create an account or sign in when the portal requires it.
- Select the available event categories, such as release or custody change.
- Provide an SMS number, email address, or both, based on the offered channels.
- Complete the verification or confirmation prompts shown on screen.
- Save the registration details and update contact information after any change.
The current portal screen shown below is the official place to begin. The screen may change, so follow the live labels rather than relying on a saved image alone.
A notice is a backup, not a guarantee of instant delivery. Agency transmission, portal availability, contact-service issues, and an offline local jail can affect timing. Keep direct contact information for the jail or MODOC when a prompt answer is important.
Old VINELink PIN Instructions in Grundy County
The 2024 MOVANS brochure described a telephone workflow with a four-digit PIN. The recipient entered the PIN followed by the pound sign to acknowledge a call. Email did not require that telephone PIN. Those instructions remain useful for understanding an old registration but do not describe the current Grundy County local-jail channel.
Phone calls for local detention notifications ended with the May 2026 transition. Current local registration uses SMS and email through the MOVANS portal. If the live portal asks for a code or another verification step, follow its wording. Do not label that new prompt as the former phone PIN unless the screen itself does so.
A person who once received VINELink-app or phone alerts should not wait for the next event to test the old registration. Create a new local-jail registration, confirm the selected event types, and verify that the current SMS or email destination is correct.
Match Grundy County Custody in VINE
A county-jail departure, state-prison event, court event, and federal or immigration movement belong to different systems. Start with the Grundy County release log if the person left the local detention center. That log can name or code the receiving authority. Then check the receiving system.
| Situation | Correct next channel |
|---|---|
| Grundy County jail custody | MOVANS local offender search and Grundy Sheriff confirmation |
| MODOC prison or active supervision | MOVANS DOC path, MODOC active search, and caseworker or field officer |
| Missouri court event | MOVANS court registration plus Case.net or the clerk |
| Federal BOP custody | BOP Inmate Locator, not Missouri MOVANS local custody |
| ICE or DHS custody | ICE Online Detainee Locator and the separate DHS-VINE portal |
The BOP locator can show a released federal record within its public coverage, but it does not prove federal supervised release ended or rule out another sovereign’s custody. ICE’s locator focuses on current detention and can omit categories. A missing federal or immigration result is therefore inconclusive.
The Missouri Sex Offender Registry is also separate. It covers only people legally required to register and is not a list of all released Grundy County inmates. Registry presence can be consistent with living in the community, but it does not provide a jail gate time.
Confirm a Grundy County VINE Event
MOVANS receives data from participating agencies and can be delayed or offline. It does not create the jail release record, court judgment, sentence audit, or federal custody record. Never use one notification as the sole source for an immediate safety step or legal deadline.
For a Grundy County jail event, call the Sheriff at 660-359-2828 and ask whether the individual is physically held now. If not, ask when the person left, what release code or authority was entered, and what destination or receiving agency appears. These separate questions prevent “released” from being mistaken for “returned to the community.”
Local-jail and court MOVANS assistance is available at 573-526-1929 or movans@dps.mo.gov. MODOC offender-notification questions use 573-526-6516 or victims@doc.mo.gov. A particular state status should also be confirmed with the institutional caseworker before release or field officer after release.
When the portal and agency record disagree, preserve the exact person identifier, agency label, event text, and time checked. Give those details to the correct support desk without adding unrelated personal information. The support team can address the notification path, while the jail or corrections custodian remains responsible for the source record. This division helps correct a registration problem without mistaking it for a correction to the underlying custody history.
Verification limit: A MOVANS event can alert a reader to a change, but the jail, MODOC, court, BOP, or DHS record must explain the legal status and destination.
Use the service for lawful notification, personal knowledge, record correction, custody location, or a court and legal process. Accept protected or sealed information as unavailable. Capture the date of any dynamic result and confirm it with the originating agency before relying on it.
